Gear needed to create a future-proof setup

Hey guys, need a bit of help with setting up a home studio setup. I'm fairly new to working with multiple devices and would love some input.

So I want to create a setup that uses both hardware and software. I currently have an Elektron Machinedrum which I love and don't think I'll sell for a very long amount of time. I'd like to create a future-proof setup where I can add up to 3 - 5 pieces of hardware (Mainly Synths), maybe a few more in the future.

However, I would also like to control multiple synths from a single MIDI keyboard and work through Ableton mostly, arming the specific tracks that I would like to control at that time.

What would be the best interface(/patchbay?) to purchase for this?

In summary, what would be the best setup to have MIDI In on multiple synths, as well as audio going into my computer? Bonus would be if I could work with pedals in the future potentially.

Sorry if this is a beginner question, I've not dealt with hardware at all and feel a little overwhelmed in wanting to create a future-proof setup.

Thanks in advance

Alternatively, if someone could direct me to some relevant literature, I'd love to learn by myself. Thanks again!
