Help- I think I‘ve bought the wrong synth for my boyfriend for Xmas

Hi /r/synths, musically clueless girlfriend here. My boyfriend is recently getting into synthesizers, specifically modular analog synths, and I want to support his hobby this Christmas on about a $500 budget. He currently has the Volca Keys and is also looking into making his own modules for context. We had been scouring secondhand stores in the area for synths together and for some reason I remembered the Yamaha DX7 being something he was particularly looking for, but he’s listed off so many to me recently I haven’t been able to keep them straight. (I’m worried I confused it with the more pricey CS-80 or something similar which is analog...)

I purchased the Yamaha DX7 on Ebay for him for Christmas in a hurry because I wanted to grab it before it was sold, but now that I’ve done more research it seems that’s a digital and not analog synth. He has recently espoused to me a) what the difference is and b) why he is more interested in the analog side. He was using FL Studio as his digital example though so I don’t know if since he already has this digital synth software in his computer is the digital DX7 redundant? I am now regretting my purchase and I’m worried I should return it and buy something else but I can’t find any in my price range.

Basically, is this a good gift or is it not particularly useful (given what he has and is most interested in)? If not, do you have any suggestions for similarly priced analog synths? Thanks in advance.
