Need Advice On Balancing Synth Sounds In A Mix

Hi Friends.

Maybe not the right reddit forum, but...

I have this synth sound I made that I really love. It has kind of a menacing low buzzing element that is reminiscent of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own, but on the whole it is mostly bright and shiny. How do you balance something like this in a mix, assuming you’re going for a pop/dance vibe? I’m having so much trouble finding sounds in Abelton that can match with this and give the song movement— are there certain sounds that work best with bright, buzzing synths? Like maybe an ambient pad, or can a good bass line ground the song? I just feel like I have this great verse section but I have no idea how to move into a new phrase like a pre-chorus or chorus without introducing another sound that can carry weight. I don’t want to just omit / vary the drums to denote new musical phrases...

Very new to mixing / writing w software synths and need advice!!
