Ericasynths Pico System III

Hi folks,

First post here, finally feel like I'm going to step into the world of Eurorack.

I've got a couple of ideas for starting my first case but wanted to see if anyone has advice relating to the Ericasynths Pico System III. I have experience with regular synthesisers, but not modular.

This system can be bought as a 42HP module, so my thinking is that I could buy one as my first module and become more comfortable with modular. It has VCOs, a sequencer, envelopes and all sorts of other functions so would probably be very educational and keep me entertained until I'm ready to purchase new modules.

As I expand my rack, the Pico would stay in my case and take care of various functions I otherwise wouldn't get if I was to just start buying standard modules.

Alternatively, I could go the standard route by planning a rack and slowly buying each module. Is this maybe a better way of understanding each module - as I wouldn't have the security of the Pico to take care of functions I don't yet have?

I guess my question is this:

Would buying the Pico first be:

A. Educational and forward compatible, a good way into modular or,

B. A hinderance by giving me too many functions at once and perhaps not as useful down the line?

Any other tips for a beginner are much appreciated Smile

Thanks!
