Selecting a correct PSU for my case

hi everyone!

I am making my first modular rig, and looking at 84hp 9U case. I don't have a set of modules yet, but I created a hypothetical long term list which resulted in following specs:

  • Power Consumption: 1393 mA +12V | 466 mA -12V | 160 mA 5V

Now the case I want to buy has INTELLIJEL TPS80 power unit which has 80W and following specs:

  • +12V output at 3000 mA, -12V output at 3000 mA, +5V output at 1500 mA

This is clearly more than enough. Now in order to lower the price, case manufacturer is asking me if a weaker power supply will still suit me, in particular "BoardPWR – small ´no HP´ power supply" from konstantlab with 45W and following specs:

  • +12V / 2A, -12V / 1.2A,+5V / 1.5A

So for my untrained eye even this seems like sufficient for my setup. So I got two questions:

  1. Would this alternative PSU still be sufficient? Considering that I filled in my whole rack and it's still 70% usage at +12V. I don't want to have any power issues, so if TPS80 means better overall experience, i will go for it.
  2. What effect does Wattage have in all of this? It's 90W vs 45W in those power supplies.

thanks in advance
