Couple of questions from someone who knows absolutely nothing about synths

I’m looking to buy a synth to work on music that I’ve been trying to finish and I’m kinda clueless as to what all a synth can really do

  1. Can you make samples on a synth or is a synth and a sampler two totally different things?

  2. Are vst synths any good? If so what are the good ones

  3. Are there pedals for synths like guitars and basses or are the effects usually only on the synths themselves

  4. About how much do you need to spend on a synth to get one that’s worth putting in a mix

  5. The music I’m working on is a hard rock / modern metal type of music like bring me the horizon, crown the empires last album, linkin park. So not entirely synth focused music so I’m not looking for something an edm producer would use or something but just something that’s versatile and has a good sound that can go from odd sounds to more clean rhythm sounds so that being said where should I start looking and what should I be looking for that would fit that description?
