Upgrades from the mix8?

I have a mackie mix8 that I got from a friend. I really like the features it has, though I would prefer two headphone outs. The big problem right now is that the audio coming from it sounds really low bitrate and muddy if that makes sense. Is there some mixer (new or used) that would sound better?
