Vortex Sound Research

1. Can I plug a standard microphone straight in and use the vocoding features or does it need to go through an amp or mixer?
2. Does anyone have recommendations for tutorials on the Micron?

I bought it before my kid was born, I never got to use it and now they (11 y.o.) are going to start using it. (Yay!)
