Tools for getting single cycle waveforms from audio

I'm trying to make some Serum wavetables out of VFX transwaves. As far as I know, this can't be done directly, so I've just been sampling the VFX scanning through the table. The next step can be done two ways:

  1. I can open the recording in Audacity and manually cut out representative single waves, save those as individual files, and import them individually into Serum. This gives the best results overall.

  2. Alternatively you can drop the whole file into Serum, type a note like c1 into the "formula" field, and it'll do its best to slice it up into individual waves. This gives mixed results and in my opinion rarely sounds as good.

So my question is, are there any good tools for more automatically doing my method 1. In particular, the problem with method is that for certain sounds it is very difficult to impossible to identify the periodicity of the wave. If there are a lot of harmonics or especially for inharmonic sounds, this isn't really possible. I'm just curious what other methods or tools there are for this that you've had luck with.
