I'm just starting out and planning my rig and I am wondering if there are any big downsides to using an external sequencer/midi keyboard to control my rack. I have a keystep and a novation sl MKIII that I used to control all my other synths and it seems a no brainer to just add the eurorack to my current setup, however, the more I learn about modular people seem to be really into self-contained systems with some sort of modular control.
Are there any big downsides to using midi to cv? If I have a multi-channel sequencer I am guessing I can control all of my modular oscillators as if they were just normal synthesizers, but I don't want to "miss out" on the weirder generative sequencing possibilities afforded by modular sequencers.
Can I have both in one system?
If it matters, I am only really planning to use my rack for melodic duties, not percussion.
