JP-8000 midi to new mac / logic x issues

Hi there , I recently got a JP-8000 synthesiser. It seems to be in great working condition. Im using it on a new Mac Book pro Catalina with Apollo Twin x interface and Logic X . I can get Audio working fine but the main way I want to be able to work is via midi notes in logic external instrument triggering the synth so I can make quantised loops and sculpt while a progression or noise of some sort plays and then record the audio that way.

Im using a midi to https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/mio to connect the midi outputs to my mac which then goes into usb 3c converter as the Apollo doesn't have midi inputs. The Mio is coming up on the Audio Midi set up and im following all the other steps for External Midi /hardware instrument within logic but midi at present isnt being recognised in Logic but when I go to record midi im only getting audio in and no midi notes being played or recorded.

Ive done as much research as I can in the manual and online but cant queit find a specific answer to my solution that works.

Im sure ive left out some relevant info here , ive worked with the JP8080 on my previous mac before with some but less problems. Im sure the answer is glaringly obvious but im a certified donut with this kinda thing.

Any help would be much appreciated. Feel like the issue could be a myriad of things.

best
