The Hate/Love synth sound ratio

So I picked up a Roland D-05, that boutique that has all the functionality of the Roland D-50. I went through the patch banks and out of the hundreds of sounds, I hated about 90% of the patches and loved 10%. I thought maybe I made a mistake and should had got something else. Alright, if it were a piano with more or less one sound, and I hated it, that would be a problem. Tell me if I am just in denial, but any synth is going to be capable of making a wide spectrum of unlistenable sounds and (hopefully) a spectrum of great sounds. Oddly I love and despise the D-05’s sounds for the same reasons: very nostalgic, very digital. Some patches are just a little too overplayed and cringy to enjoy any more. What do you think? Is that about right? Does your synth just have a relatively narrow sweet spot of sounds and many others you just don’t bother with? Sorry if this is a noob question, but this is all new to me.

submitted by /u/trixwagen
[link] [comments]
