Synth jamming with live instruments

I would love to hear some perspectives on different approaches to playing synths in instrumental improv jamming with other musicians that play live instruments? Namely Drums, Bass, Guitar.

If I can start the song off using an arp or repeated line the other guys play along just fine. When someone else starts the jam I find it a bit harder to fit in, find the right patch, get the tempo right etc.

What I've found works best is for me to have a mini mixer next to my Synth with headphones so I can audition a patch or part before turning up my sound with the band.

Would love to hear other ideas etc.

Thanks

submitted by /u/cjr71244
[link] [comments]
