Volca FM vs Model:Cycles?

I've been using softsynths for a few years now and haven't picked up any hardware synths until now, and I've been looking at an FM synth because my price range is narrow and most analog synths in this price range (200-500 AUD) don't seem to have a ton of depth, whereas fm does. Originally I was set on the Volca FM, but the idea of a groovebox like the model:cycles appeals to me because it would allow for sequencing tracks away from the computer. Which one is likely to be better if I'm looking for something that can do melodic, ambient pieces? Additionally, how suited is the model:cycles for melodic pieces, and would a midi keyboard be necessary? Thanks.

submitted by /u/Buggajayjay
[link] [comments]
