Hi all,

After a lot of thought I have decided I want to dip my toe into the world of modular with a small all-in-one desktop system. It is very unlikely I will ever go fully into modular as I don't have the money or space. I already have a Korg MS20 which takes up most of my desk and I have enjoyed patching this for a long time. However I would quite like something that compliments that while offering some new challenges. It is possible that if I like the module I get I may add a small rack of 2 or 3 modules to complement it but that is as far as I can go realistically.

There seems to be a lot of fantastic options and I am frankly stumped about which to go for so would be great to get some advice from owners on here. I have been reading the individual threads on each one but wanted to put them all together to help me decide. Please see list below with my thoughts. Would love to hear your feedback!

Make Noise 0-coast
Pros: looks like it will be challenging and I like the West Coast approach
Cons: for the price seems it could be a bit limited?

Erica Pico System III
Pros: seems to have more features than the 0-Coast
Cons: sounds maybe not as interesting, not convinced by the sound card gimmick, wish they had added another module instead!

Sound Machines Modulor114
Pros: looks to have the most for the price and some key modular learning tools.
Cons: was interested more in a West Coast style synth to compliment the MS20. Doesn't seem that well know so not sure if any resale value?

Kilpatrick Audio Phenol
Pros: fully modular so you need to patch to make a sound which I like as a challenge. Looks awesome!
Cons: sound seems a bit bland but also noisy and harsh

Plankton Electronics Ants
Pros: just looks like a little beast!
Cons: not sure about the basic sound and resale value

submitted by /u/blindlemonreagan
[link] [comments]
