Why the volume difference?

I’ve been checking out a few synths lately and they all have a common sound difference between headphone and line output.

Please can someone help me understand why? Using HD558 or HD25ii in the prologues headphone jack runs hot AF but also sounds thick in the low end and lush with no distortion. I’m honestly running at just under 09:00 on the master out and it’s loud!

But my audio interface (scarlet 2i2 2nd gen) reports -20db in my DAW and sounds mega quiet. If I try to raise the input in any way to stay in the green (gain stage the inputs) I hit about 10:00 max before clipping! Then I have to crank the headphone out knob to hear it.

This wouldn’t be an issue but my computer and DAW headphone out is loud as hell for everything else but line in with the headphone out at around 09:00! Anything last 12:00 the signal to noise is bad.

Using TRS cables, also tried XLR input on the focusrite but no difference. Is it just my interface has shit line in?

Cheers

submitted by /u/ScrivAdams
[link] [comments]
