Q: is my synth defective? (Dreadbox Nyx V2)

TL;DR: oscillators won't start up until i change the filter cutoff. Is this ok?

Hi r/synthesizers,

yesterday I got my first synth, a Dreadbox Nyx V2. It took me a while to get some sounds out of it, but when I did, I started to love this device! The filter cutoff knob scratches a little at the bottom, but this did not bother me any further.

However,

when I turned it off and on again (not changing any dials), nothing happened. The synth stayed quiet. Giving time for tuning, turning it off and on again multiple times, still nothing. Experimenting further, about 1 out of 5 power cycles, i got the synth to play.

After multiple frustrating sessions, a pattern emerged: the oscillators only start oscillating when I turn the filter cutoff dial left and right, over the part where it scratches on the bottom.

Is this normal or tolerable for a (this) synth? Or should I return the device?

I'd welcome any help, thanks!

submitted by /u/klacklacklack
[link] [comments]
