Interface ins/outs question

Not synth specific but I figured you guys may have some insight. Didn't get much response on the audio engineering sub.

Scarlett 4i4. I have been using line outs 3 and 4 to insert some pedals, going back to inputs 3 and 4. Doing this seems to cause the headphone out to become disabled, or unusable.

I am only really able to use monitors 50% of the time. It would get annoying switching things around but technically speaking can I do the same type thing with outs 1 and 2? Meaning use those to send out to my pedals and then leave 3/4 intact to use for my headphones?

I also assume that if I were to get a larger interface with more outs I wouldn't have this issue, I could have monitors/headphones and some outs to send to pedals all going at the same time. Would the 8i6 even allow this? It has 2 extra line ins but still just the 4 line outs. Even the 18i8 only has the 4 line outs.

submitted by /u/zub_dub22
[link] [comments]
