Question about Casio's SD synths DCOs

Hello everyone,

I'll just touch a sensitive topic, i hope not to get burned at the stake by the analog purists hahah. I know that by many, DCOs are treated as "real analog", like the alpha juno, korg poly-800 and others from the era. But Casio's SD synths (with variable waveform DCOs 8 voice polyphonic and true analog VCF-VCA ) are sold as junk for 80 € while the korg poly 800 is up to 400-500 € with much less functionality and, well, the price of an alpha juno is near the 700 € now. Appart from the aesthetics and sound preferences, are Casio DCOs really a different tech and are just digital waveforms or is it just that no one has catched up on this and we have to get some HT-3000 while they are cheap?

I've done some searches online and there is some mystery around how the waveforms are produced, but they are always referred to as "digital synths" with analog filter, while korg and roland DCOs are treated as analog synths.

submitted by /u/Cahuin
[link] [comments]
