Someone explain DCA1-3 envelopes to me on the ESQ-1

I understand how the L/T values work, but I don't understand the routing structure apparently. I understand that ENV4 is basically hardwired as the final envelope for the DCA4, but it doesn't seem like setting any of ENV1-3 as a modulation source for DCA1-3 has any effect at all. Meaning I can't seem to get one voice to have a different amplitude envelope than the others, like having one sustained layer with one fast sound in another layer. I have a hard time believing this isn't possible, but so far I'm just beating my head against the wall wondering why nothing I'm doing works. I even see factory patches that have one of the ENVs set as a modulation source in some of the DCAs but it almost seems like they're not actually doing anything. This looks on principle like it's incredibly simple so I must be missing something obvious.

submitted by /u/crom-dubh
[link] [comments]
