please help - looking for a polysynth

Hi everyone.

Sooooo, I've been producing (mostly techno or idm) for some time now.

I've had quite a few synths over the years but I am now left with an original Arp 2600, a Pulsar 23 and some outboard gear (Korg Stage Echo, Ensoniq DP4, some pedals and eurorack modules). Ableton live is the master clock, everything goes through it and this is where things are arranged into tracks.

I have been looking for a polysynth for a while now and I have a budget of about $8,000 CAD.

I'm not saying I need to spend it all, but that's what is available.

What I am looking for / not looking for:

1/ a synth that is versatile enough for the genres I am into (techno / idm). I want to use it mainly for pads, drones and FX. If it does more, great.

2/ has midi capabilities. It does not need to be super elaborate, I want at minimum to be able to send midi notes. But more control is a plus.

3/ could be a desktop unit. It will mostly be played via ableton. I don't care about aftertouch, etc.

4/ at least 4 voices.

5/ can be vintage. I don't mind having to spend some $ every once in a while for tuning, servicing, etc.

6/ analog oscillators.

Polysynths I have had over the years: Juno 60, JX-3P, Chroma Polaris, Korg Monopoly, ASM Hydrasynth.

Polysynths I have been looking at: Alesis Andromeda, Prophet 5 or 6, Oberheim Xpander, Sequential OB6, Novation Peak, Studio Electronics Omega 8.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks much

submitted by /u/patent_everything
[link] [comments]
