Guitarist Looking For Modular Home

Hello,

First post here, and very much a beginner to the exciting world of modular, hoping for some guidance on where to look next before buying a rig. Musician for 30 years, guitar player, lots of experience playing/recording in bands. Also have experience producing techno with VST's and plugins on Logic Pro X.

My current project searching for a home for instrumental electric guitar composition in synth world and haven't mangled to find a workflow and 'sound' to compose with in VST land. Next avenue to explore is modular, and see if I can find some blended sounds that I like. Some more info on what I'm being drawn to at the moment.

- My brain composes pianistically, control over the harmony is very important to me
- I like to be intentional rather than random/generative
- I'm not sure yet but imagine having versatility for producing up to 4 controllable voices plus beats is going to be where I want to end up

- Guitar I typically play slightly pushed/broken up and very dynamic and present.
- I don't like the sound of moving filters. No wah for this guitarist!
- The two genres of modular/synth based music I'm drawn to are ambient plucks/textures and dark minimalist techno (I know, very different worlds!)
- Light or dark sounds, rough textures. Play in the contrast between present (forward) and blended.
- I'm really drawn to the sound of 0-coast make noise and Strega as a starting point.

I'm looking to explore using Bitwig as the brain for system (output midi/CV and record) and a Digiface/Ferrofish 16CV to hook everything up. I'm open to using plugins or hardware for the FX part.

Questions:

a) Given above thoughts, which modules/cases systems would you recommend resarching?
b) Is there anything that people always recommend that isn't necessary given the Bitwig brain idea? (Also happy to hook up VCV)
c) Are there any problems/limitations I'm going to run into using this sort of setup that would be helpful to be aware of in advance?

Thanks in advance everyone. It's a complex world for a beginner but hopefully with some direction I'll find my way to a fruitful starting point.

submitted by /u/ErgoDust
[link] [comments]
