FM synthesis

Hi all. Wanted to start a discussion on FM bcuz I think it opens an entire new world of synthesis.

First off what do you consider FM? Does it require audio-rate modulation? Do you consider using an LFO to modulate the frequency of a slave VCO to be FM?

Do you typically use a slave VCO for FM? How do you set the frequency, below or above the frequency of the master? I find FM tracking works best if you set the slave higher. Does it matter what wave-shape you sync the slave too? Does it matter which wave you output from the slave? I don’t have a scope ATM so I’m sure it makes a difference but I can’t always here it.

submitted by /u/CohenCaveWaits
[link] [comments]
