How to achieve the Nirvana effect

Hey guys,

I've got a pretty clear idea on something that I want to achieve using modular but would like some advice before jumping headfirst

I've been producing some stuff that sounds like a synth version of nirvana: simple lines with the Moog Grandmother + Minitaur that sound mild until they suddenly get overdriven to hell and beyond

Software-wise I'm happy with a stereo/Haas expander and Outputs's Thermal as overdrive + waveshaper

Now I want to bring it into live performance

So I want to build a rack that works as a distortion unit and I want a big knob that triggers the stereo expansion and overdrive circuit.

How would you go about doing this?

I'm looking into module advice but also thoughts on the chain I'd need. I'm looking into: - Erica Synths Plasma - Zvex fuzz modules For distortion, but no idea about a good stereo expander

Any thoughts? Much appreciated friends

submitted by /u/g_the_miller
[link] [comments]
