Opinions on the Zoom L-8/L-12 ?

Been looking for a multi-track recorder so i can work on music without having to stare at a computer screen, and the L-8 seems pretty much perfect for me. Was wondering if anyone owns one and could give me any pro/cons, things to look out for, or alternatives to compare to.
