Roland JX-8P Programming without the PG-800?

is it at all possible? I have had it for a long time and it's such a good synth and yet it sounds off, and I can't find nor afford the programmer right now.

Is it possible with some software on Linux/Windows? Any help would be appreciated. I really want to get back to playing it!
