Not all 'vintage' synths are great.

There is this goldrush mentality when it comes to old equipment, with everyone eyeing every piece of equipment made before 1990 and treating it as a treasure chest of sonic rainbows, or futureproof investment.

The reality is that many synths can very easily be replicated with even the most basic DAW stock synths. This of course does not take away from the benefits of the mad professor mentality of being surrounded by hardware, tweaking dials and being inspired by quirky equipment and such.

If the hardware itself is a source of inspiration to great music, then fantastic! But the expectation and reverence of some of the most random devices picked up at thrift stores or found on online auctions has become a little strange.

Yes, we are in the era where many setups can be replicated just by browsing Amazon and everyone is seeking their own sound and craving uniqueness; however it's also worth managing your expectations and understanding that a lot of the purchases will be for the tactile experience and inspiration, and not for some sort of sound you have been seeking.

If you are a synth enthusiast and want to catch them all, then go for it! However, my advice after seeing a lot of posts here is spend your money wisely and really be sure about what and WHY you are buying something, before jumping in and just buying a dust collector.
