Help with gate logic

I just got a Patching Pandas Hatz and I really love the sound of it. The only downside I encounter is with the choke function. I usually have standard offbeat open hat, and generate the closed hats with a random source. Only when the closed hat is at the same time as the open hat, the closed hat takes priority and there is no open hat.

I'm looking for a way to make sure these gates don't trigger simultaneously. So I can have my repeating open hat and a random closed hat running together.

The 2 solutions I could think of right now are:

  1. OH gate and CL gate in to OR. The result of this in to a XOR with the OH, and this result in the closed gate

  2. An inversed OH gate in a VCA to cut the Closed gates.

It feels like both these options are to complicated and there should be an easier way. Does anybody know a better solution? Or does anybody have the same "problem" and how do you work around this?
