Cue in modular

I’m looking to be able to preview patches while there’s another playing. I’d prefer to use clever patching than specific modules since I have XPAN and Headphone 1U as end of the signal chain and space is gold.

Is there a way to patch a cue?

I’m thinking in taking a mixer to 1U headphone as cue and XPAN as line out leaving B inputs free. Then patch the mixer into B ins and crossfade smoothly. Unpatch from A and into 1U headphone for cueing the next patch.

Any other ideas or modules that may be interesting to check?
