guitar pedals

Hey guys! Could someone explain what's the point of putting synths through guitar pedals if you can change how you want the synth to sound on its own anyway? I understand why you'd use it for a guitar given that you can't change the tone of it without a pedal but I don't understand why you'd use one for a synth. Sorry if I sound dumb, I'm really new to synths... Also I don't own an electric guitar so maybe what I said about guitars is completely wrong
