Tascam Model 12 Midi I/O feature

If I don't use any external midi hardware instruments with the Model 12 ( just tracking my channels inside daw) and use of external effects...the midi i/o feature won't matter to this case, right?

I just want to understand the purpose of it...it would be helpful when tracking external drum machines with synthesizers, inside Model 12 and no computer involved, right?
