testing a Craigslist midi keyboard

I'm going to check out an Alesis V49 MIDI keyboard controller today.

Excellent price, and he's throwing in a sustain pedal.Guy claims it's 100% functional.

BUT- if he's smart, he won't bring some internet rando into his house to check out his gear. Probably making the exchange in a nearby Denny's parking lot.

Is there a method I can use to test this thing?

I have Caustic on my Android phone, but is there a better app I should download? I don't want to be troubleshooting compatibility issues, just want to make sure all keys and encoders are working.

Also what cables should I pick up, or ask him to bring?

Cheers. My phone connection is USB Type C.
