DSI has trademarked the term "PRO3". Not sure how definite that is that such a product is coming out soon. Honestly, I can hardly thing of how to improve the pro 2, which I own. I'll try to speculate
First, the article lists a few ideas. More waveshaping options from the digital oscillators. The inclusion of a digital filter (in addition to the dual analog filters). Addition of VCO's to the existing digital oscillators. Even more sequencer capabilities. SOmething of a classic effects section at the end of the signal chain. The article speculates more modulation, but im not sure that makes sense...PRO2 has 140 destinations.
A few things I'd like....the option of external input at different places in the signal chain, as well as outs at more then just the end of the chain. A wave folder. A high-rate analog LFO (it has 4 digital LFOs, but they arent ideal for audiorate modulation). Even better digital oscillators. They are pretty good, I really don't have any complaints. But, there are better digital oscillators out there. The Peak, the Modal 001/002, have more pleasing osc. sections. Dedicated reverb section. It has 4 delay lines, and i often enough put one of them at a usable reverb-y setting, but its of course not the same as these modern digital reverbs that are available.
The PRO2 started out $2000 new, eventually dropped to I think it was $1300. I wonder if they could pack much more at the same original price of 2 grand, all of 5 years later.....I'm skeptical....either its a $2500 monosynth, or its merely better oscillators, which shouldnt raise the price, right? thats just the electronics industry getting better, as far as I understand.
