So my son (10) has been getting into fiddling with some basic sequencer apps on his phone and he really seems to have a knack for it that I'd love to foster. Sadly I no longer have my old gear (including my beloved ex5) to pass down to him.
But considering what he's already comfortable with, a groovebox seems like a good starting place? Though I must admit budget is a bit of an issue at the moment.

I was looking hard at the korg Volcas? Seems like I could get him one unit to start with for around 150, and we could add additional units down the road to round out the capabilities?

Any other suggestions? The elektron model: samples and model: cycles (I think it's called? ) seem to get great reviews but they're really up there as far as my budget range. I'm unclear as to the difference between the two, obviously model: samples is sample based, but what about the other one? Analogue/simulated analogue?

submitted by /u/Errortagunknown
[link] [comments]
