Understanding and recreating MicroKorg patch A.55

I am pretty sure A.55 is the original factory location for this patch, tho I moved it on mine over a decade ago. It's a swimming, loungey e-keys kind of sound. Really round and warm as far as MK patches go, and mixes great with a 3 piece rock sound and other synths. I use it often but it's about the only thing I use my MK for anymore.

I have taken a couple stabs at reverse engineering it and come up short. Patch Editor view.

OSC 1 is set to sine wave, with some depth on X-MOD as well as Velocity and the Filter Envelop applied generously. They call this x-mod, cross-mod, but it's.. FM, right? So I should be able to recreate this patch on another FM capable unit. First couple stabs came up well short.

I think the key is understanding Microkorg's Sine Wave Control 1 (XMOD) and Control 2 (XMod Depth LFO1 Mod.Int) features.

How would I recreate those Control 1/Control 2 features unique to MK's sine wave oscillator? They're set pretty subtle on the oscillator, but lots of things are feeding into Control 1: LFO1 (medium speed and and subtle depth, via Control 2, keeps it always moving), Velocity and the Filter EG.

What's the common FM parameter equivalent of what MK calls cross modulation?

How does osc 2's level play into the the result? I haven't spent a ton of time in FM, but my impression is that the operator level isn't always independent from the "FM amt" or x-mod amount in Control 1. Here, it is. Can I replicate that?

My FM-capable units:
Deluge
Pigments
MicroFreak (arrives today!)

submitted by /u/WhenTheRainsCome
[link] [comments]
