Looking for a way to recreate specific synthesizer-sounds

Hello there

i like to create covers of songs, using my guitars and virtual instruments. Usually i don't really use synthesizers, but lately i stumbled across songs, where the synthesizer gives so much character to the song, that i cannot really replace it with something else :/

since i build the covers from the ground and i don't re-mix parts of the original, i wondered how i should go about recreating a sound. currently i just click around on my studio one build-in plugins "precense" and "mai tai" and try to find something that sounds similar, but i cannot really find anything fitting.

a few examples of game and anime soundtracks, where i feel that the synthesizers are kind of similar - and which i'd like to recreate (timestamps):

"one piece soundtrack - the very very very strongest" - 0:40 / https://youtu.be/4J7K3yacig4?t=34

"metin 2 soundtrack - wonderland" - 3:41 / https://youtu.be/SHFXROsdR30?t=220

the only thing i tried creating until now was a wobble-bass. is there a "type" or "keyword" of synthesizer that is already more or less representing the two examples - just like the keyword "wobble bass"?

and also - i wonder how i should go about learning to use a synthesizer - does it make sense to try to reproduce a sound or should i really learn the basics my making some more EDM music first?

-> also - is it recommended to use the built-in tools or do you have recommendations on cheap (like less than 100 bucks) or free synths?

submitted by /u/apr00
[link] [comments]
