Hello! I have recently taken an interest in getting into synthesizers. I am a huge fan of the old school 80's sound and I wanted to take a shot at buying and playing my first synth. Ive been doing research and it seems to be an expensive hobby since there are alot of professionals it seems the price fits the performance lol ?.

What Im going for is the cheapest synthesizer I can get that can be programmed to sound like the dx-7 or close to it. What would you guys recommend? Should I buy an OG DX-7 or is there a modern alternative that would better fit that requirement? If so is there something sub $500 that would be good or am I just going to have to shell out 2k for a good one?

Really just gathering some info before I commit to anything. Any advice is appreciated! Including telling me to kick rocks and to go find a different hobby lmao ?

submitted by /u/polygonman244
[link] [comments]
