Best way to plug a guitar into eurorack?

I've got an electric bass guitar. I’ve got a small eurorack (and a Minibrute 2 semimodular). I would like to be able to feed the signal from the guitar into the eurorack, filter it etc. There seem to be a few ways to do this but I don’t know which one to go with.

My options I think:

- Doepfer A119
Pros: Cheap; the Envelope/Gate features seem really convenient; has a symmetrical audio in (I think this is for live-concert-quality pro gear and I don’t need this??)
Cons: The [Doepfer A119 page itself](http://www.doepfer.de/a119.htm) sorta warns you about its sound quality: "The built-in preamp is not "high-end" and shows - depending upon the position of the gain control - a reduction of higher frequencies in the frequency response". I do not know whether this is a problem especially with a bass.

- Industrial music electronics Black Locust
Pros: Four channels; I could use it for guitar input AND for pedal IO(!) AND I think?? I could use it to convert modular signal out, to something I can record or play on a normal speaker?
Cons: Kinda expensive, 16HP/physically big

- DIY it somehow???
It feels like all you should need to do is add gain to boost the signal up to the neighborhood of 5V, so I feel like I ought to be able to just run the 3.3V headphone out from my normal guitar amp into a modular input. When I tried this however it did not seem to work (no audio at all).

Does anyone have any OPINIONS about this? Can anyone speak to the audio quality of either the A119 or the Black Locust? Can I plug normal headphones into the Black Locust to get a headphone monitor from my eurorack?

submitted by /u/mcc111
[link] [comments]
