Question about mounting new rotary and slider potentiometers on a controller

Hi,

I'm looking to build a new midi controller and I have a question about mounting the potentiometers. I know this is a synth sub, but I bet there are many people here that have opened/repaired synths and can offer some advice.

My general plan is to mount rotary and slider pots on a pcb and then mount the pcb to my enclosure. It looks to me that while most slider pots come with threaded holes for panel mounting, mosty synths/controllers do not use them. I think this could partly be because the standard mounting height on a slider pot is 7 mm (distance from the top of the pot to the bottom of the panel), while most rotary pots look to be closer to 9 or 10 mm.

Can anyone confirm that the pots are usually just soldered to the pcb with no extra support? Or, are there some other mounting methods?

thanks
