Question about VCAs and EGs

I’m (very) slowly building a rack in the background as and when I see things on the cheap. At the moment I have Intellijel I/O, Dave Smith Curtis & Character and Make Noise Function. I have no oscillator yet but something interesting like Braids is on the list. My questions will the VCA on the Curtis suffice once i get an osc? Will I need another EG type device to individually control amp shape and filter shape? If so would something simple like the doepfer ADSR do?

Aside from that, I really like the look of the Disting mk4 for quantising and generally adding some interest. Would it be wise at the early stage or perhaps better left for a later date?
