Elektron Digitone alternatives for beginners?

I like this device, but the price tag is way above what I want to spend for an FM device.

The main selling point here is the fact that the device is smart enough so you can focus on sound creation more than matching ratio between the various carriers and modulators, to not mess up the output (FM is anything but straightforward for sure).

I saw the Volca FM; although it seems complicate; is there anything else beside the Digitone and the Volca, maybe in the middle? something with a small form factor, without keys and easy to use would be ideal.
