Using Model D (iPad) as a MIDI controller in GarageBand (Mac)

I apologize if this is a noob question, but I'm trying to figure out a way to use the Model D app on my iPad to record a track in Garageband on my Mac, and I'm just getting repeatedly stumped and frustrated. Any tips on how to set this up? I'm totally new to this!
