Paraphonic term origin?

Does anyone know when the term Paraphonic was first associated with synths or the first synth (or organ, etc.) was described as such.

Also, why this term - or what does "para-" mean in this context?

Was it a term that was retroactively applied to devices that weren't truly/fully polyphonic well after they were made, or something used when these devices came out - or was it, like many things are, a marketing term?
