How do you create dramatic changes in a patch over time?

How do you folks manage more advanced / evolving macro changes in patches? I feel i've got pretty good in creating evolving patterns through CV-changes to individual parameters but want to find ways to take a patch into more dramatic "phases" over time? Any tips + tricks? As context, i'm in a 6u 84hp + Subh/DFAM situation so interested in strategies for that size system vs a mega-spaceship
