Syncing ad envelope with midi notes played?

Hey, first post here, relatively new to modular. anyways,

I've had the Erica synths pico system III and a beatstep pro for a while now. Today I tried using the beatstep pro as a midi to cv converter to play midi from ableton.

I can't seem to figure out how to trigger the envelope at the same time as the note is played. I tried running the 12v/oct output to both an oscillator and the envelope trigger input which goes in to a vca controlling the volume of the oscillator, but the 12v/oct signal does not trigger the envelope consistently.

How would I go about achieving an envelope trigger on each note played? Thanks
