So, why aren't we all using workstations?

It occurred to me, workstation synths are multitimbral, do sampling/sequencing, have large high quality weighted keybeds, a vast range of sounds, and can be picked up cheap once they get a few years old - yet we never talk about them on this sub.

Is it because they're not seen as 'real' synthesizers, or do they just to a lot of things not very well, and we generally prefer discrete pieces that are specialists?

Or has everyone secretly got a Fantom X8 in their studio and they just don't mention it?
