Modular Grid Social Feed -- Dave Smith Instruments

Prophet 12 used on new album by Hippo Act:

"Spind: Synth part playing parallel 5ths. FM-based bell patch, with some distortion and built in delay. Playing parallel notes to the guitar, bass and a second synth. Hard stereo spread. B-part is a held noise sound, slowly modulated wave, filters, bit rate and delay time. Stereo delays from the prophet, then into Strymon Bluesky for some more stereo ambience.

• Forslag Fra Salen: Layer consisting of lush pad (A) and very distorted rhodes-like patch (B) with long release. Shortening the release of B during improvisation to adapt to playing. The stereo spread also makes for some very interesting effects in this section, almost surrounding the guitar in the stereo spectrum.

• Episk Dilemma: Wild monophonic random patch entering around 1.15. Crossfading with more random noises from modular, and together creating glitchy melodies, noise textures and sometimes jet driven random chords.

• Glidelås: 2ND solo patch, from 2.15. Overdriven synth ”organ” with polyphonic glide and and rich texture. During the improvisation I am going back and forth between this, an Elektron analog keys and a Oberheim OB-SX, also creating some multivoice melody lines.

• Feardrop: This is a four voice written composition for pedal steel, two synthesizers and upright bass. I play the lead melody on a Bass Sation 2, and the second voice on the prophet with a soft pad-like sound. Nothing fancy; a filtered sawtooth wave thru short modulated delays and a hint of stereo spread. Rounding off and filling in the overall texture.

• Pyroskop: High-passed chords, slightly bit reduced and modulating waveshape mix. Adding a phaser later on. Also playing two unison bass parts, together with the distorted upright bass! One really distorted destroyed hacked, distorted bass sound, and one high passed with more of a wobbly character.

• Gastrofobia: Layer with two polyphonic pads. ”A” is your typical full sounding filtered sawtooth. ”B” is a more resonant sweeping lush pad with longer release and delays. Eventually introducing random modulation of filters, oscillators and and delays. Gradually morphing into complete chaos. Also, when the chords are reintroduced at about 5.15 there is A LOT of slop, gradually morphing back to initial sound. Everything is done manually, live, by hand. Fun!!"
