Synth effect in this video

Hi, I am wondering about this cool effect that can be heard in the first one and a half minutes of this video: it seems to me that the synth is alternating between two notes whenever two keys are pressed down. Correct? Is this a function specific to the Roland SH-101 or can it be achieved with other synths too? Thank you!
