Any Orthogonal Devices ER301 owners here? Manual Grains question

Hi all,

Been looking to pick up on of these for a while. I am just curious if any owners have much experience with Manual Grains? Is it a viable replacement for Clouds? And is the panning of grains random (like Clouds) or more uniform (like a ping pong style effect)?
