Using VA synths to lay out a rough version of a song?

I have been doing this lately, the mild timbral changes of minimoog, CS 80, jup, Juno, etc are nice for laying out a song quick and making interesting sounding intros and breaks with almost no work. I can't use them the drop though because their functionality is near zero
